What special considerations are there for virtual implementation of Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) due to COVID-19 pandemic?

As many organizations go virtual because of the COVID-19 outbreak, mental health providers work to address barriers to treatment and the opportunity for ongoing clinical trainings. This FAQ addresses the use of telehealth technology for Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) training and model implementation with some critical considerations to the pandemic. Most of the resources listed on the TF-CBT home page are for tele-TF-CBT and are not specific to the COVID 19 pandemic. However, once clinicians complete the required training, many pandemic-related resources are reviewed during twice monthly consultation calls with the developer(s).

Can the program be implemented virtually?

Yes, definitely. In fact, tele-TF-CBT was studied even before the pandemic and was demonstrated to be effective.  There are many TF-CBT telehealth resources on the website: https://tfcbt.org

What assistance has the developer provided/continuing to provide?

Dr. Mannarino continues to host virtual trainings and consultations calls as scheduled. Virtual trainings specifically address how to implement the TF-CBT via telehealth sessions.

How are trainings being offered?

Virtual trainings are currently available. Over the past several months, dozens of TF-CBT virtual trainings have been conducted around the country. Each virtual experience has provided feedback from participants to help make the trainings more engaging and a good learning experience for the participants.
